WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers — All Endings & True Ending Guide
⚠️ Spoiler warning: this guide names endings, bosses and late-game locations.
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers has four endings. Two of them are easy to miss, and the community does not fully agree on which one deserves the label "true ending." This guide gives the exact conditions, the point of no return, and a save-backup plan so you can see every ending in one playthrough.

The five chisels
To unlock Dream's Sweet Deceit, you need all five chisels. Do not give the Jade Feather Chisel to Xuanyangzi, or you will be one short.

The Azure Feather Chisel requires progressing Zhao Yun's dialogue, then returning to the Avian Dwelling cenotaph after defeating Zhu Youjian.
1. Successor of the Bo (secret ending)
This is the earliest ending and the easiest to lock yourself out of.
- In Chapter 3, meet Bo Magus / Red-Clad Lady at Avian Dwelling and agree to her proposal.
- In Chapter 4, reach 丹青苑 (Annalum) after the Fierce Tiger boss in Mt. Zhenwu.
- When the Storyteller asks whether to continue, refuse. Do not select "Continue Forward."
- Defeat Bo Magus (the Bo shaman).
The game ends early and cuts off the Bo Capital. This ending has its own trophy, Successor of the Bo.
Point of no return: the Storyteller conversation at 丹青苑. Finish all Mt. Zhenwu and Worship's Rise exploration and NPC quests before saying yes.
2. Jarful of Medicine (bad / default ending)
This is the default outcome if you do not complete the ring quests.
- In Chapter 4, on the road from Puyuan Temple to the Burning Cave, meet Xuanyangzi.
- Give him the Jade Feather Chisel when asked.
- Do not complete the He Youzai and Fang Yao questlines, so you cannot forge the Rebirth ring.
- Defeat the final boss.
- At the Gate of Truth, choose "Enter the Cycle of Samsara."
This is the "bad" ending in most guides. The trophy is Jarful of Medicine.
3. Dream's Sweet Deceit (hidden dream ending)
This is the most demanding ending and the one Japanese guides often call the true ending (Japanese trophy: まるで夢のよう).
- Collect all five chisels (see the table above).
- Keep the Jade Feather Chisel. At the Xuanyangzi conversation, choose "Remain Silent" instead of handing it over.
- Complete He Youzai's and Fang Yao's questlines and keep both alive.
- Fang Yao's quest requires the Shu Silk Scarf from Hillswatch and a fight at her door in Cloudspire.
- Obtain both Ring of Samsara – Cause and Ring of Samsara – Effect (Chapter 4, Puyuan Temple).
- At the third mystery gate in Capital Depths (Bo Capital), intentionally choose the "wrong" answer "Re-enter the Cycle" (再入輪迴) rather than "The Great Dream Awakens."
- Defeat Demon of Obsession at the Shu God's Dwelling.
- At the altar in the Shu God's Dwelling, combine Cause + Effect into the Ring of Samsara – Rebirth.
- Defeat the final boss, Xuanyangzi, while the Rebirth ring is in your inventory.
- At the gate, choose "Enter the Realm of Dreams." The sisters board a ship together.
The trophy is Dream's Sweet Deceit.
4. Bound by Fate's Threads (good / narrative true ending)
GameSpot and some other guides call this the true ending (「命裏無時」).
- Follow the same steps as Dream's Sweet Deceit up to the final boss. Four or five chisels are both fine; the Azure Feather Chisel is not required.
- Keep Fang Yao and He Youzai alive.
- Before interacting with the gate, make sure the Ring of Samsara – Rebirth is NOT in your inventory. Consume it from the item menu, discard it, or never forge it.
- Defeat Xuanyangzi.
- At the gate, choose "Enter the Realm of Truth" (進入真實之境). The feathers on your left arm disappear, symbolising freedom from the Bo.
The trophy is Bound by Fate's Threads.
Which ending is the "true" ending?
The game does not officially define a "true ending." All four endings have their own trophies. There are two competing answers:
- GameSpot and some guides: Bound by Fate's Threads is the true ending — it enters the Realm of Truth and removes the feathers, which reads as the narrative truth.
- TheGamer, DualShockers, PowerPyx, Japanese and some Chinese guides: Dream's Sweet Deceit is the true ending — it has the hardest unlock conditions (five chisels + both rings + Rebirth ring + Demon of Obsession).
The narrative reading and the difficulty reading produce different answers. The English name Dream's Sweet Deceit also hints that it is still a dream. Treat "true ending" as a community label.
Boss list (chapter order)
Common guides count 24 boss encounters, including rematches. The table follows that convention; some Japanese guides treat Li Dingguo as an NPC rather than a boss.

Key for endings: Fang Ling, Zhang Xianzhong, Zhu Youjian and Zhao Yun drop the four feather chisels; Bo Magus triggers the secret ending; Demon of Obsession guards the Rebirth ring; Xuanyangzi is the final boss.

Manual save backup is the standard method:
- Before the Storyteller decision at 丹青苑 — for the secret ending.
- Before the Xuanyangzi conversation at the Burning Cave — for the Jade Feather Chisel choice.
- After the final boss, before touching the gate — for the Dream/Truth split.
On PC, the save folder is under:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Project_Plague\Saved
Back up the folder before each branch, then restore it to replay the final choice. On console, use the platform's cloud/manual save tools.
FAQ
Can I get all four endings in one playthrough? Yes, with manual save backups. Without backups, you need at least two playthroughs because the Jade Feather Chisel and Rebirth ring decisions are irreversible.
Does giving the Jade Feather Chisel to Xuanyangzi lock me out of the good ending? Yes. Giving it to him leads to the Jarful of Medicine ending. Choose "Remain Silent" to keep it.
Is Dream's Sweet Deceit or Bound by Fate's Threads the true ending? It depends on the guide. GameSpot and some guides call Bound by Fate's Threads the true ending; TheGamer, DualShockers, PowerPyx and Japanese guides often call Dream's Sweet Deceit the true ending. Both are valid, and both are tracked by trophies.
Do I need the DLC to see the endings? No. All four endings are in the base game.
