WUCHANG Sequel: Bai Wuchang Returns, Indolphinity's €21.5M New Chapter
Published October 21, 2026 · WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers · 6 min read
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is getting a sequel, and the original director is building it with a new studio. Nearly three months after the announcement, the project is still in its preparation phase — but a surprising amount has already been confirmed.
The deal
On July 29, 2026, publisher 505 Games and its parent Digital Bros announced an agreement for a new chapter of the WUCHANG series. The key terms:
- Up to €21.5 million in first-phase funding.
- 505 Games handles global publishing.
- Development stays in China.
- The sequel is led by original creator and director Xia Siyuan through his new studio, Indolphinity (Chengdu Digui Haitun Technology).
- No title, platforms or release window have been announced.
The studio and the IP
- January 22, 2026: Indolphinity was registered in Chengdu, with Xia Siyuan holding 99% and serving as legal representative.
- April 27–28, 2026: Digital Bros acquired the complete WUCHANG IP from Leenzee for about €4 million, eliminating future royalty payments before setting up the sequel.
- The original Leenzee team was dissolved around the Spring Festival after a dispute over converting the team to outsourcing. Leenzee itself remains registered in Chengdu; claims that it "went bankrupt" are unsupported.
- Digital Bros has said it will set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Chengdu to work with Indolphinity. Its formal registration and scale have not been confirmed.
What Xia Siyuan has confirmed
At ChinaJoy in early August, Xia and 505 Games Asia-Pacific VP Thomas Rosenthal gave interviews about the sequel:
- Bai Wuchang returns as the protagonist.
- The game is at an early stage, with core systems being built.
- Some former Leenzee staff have rejoined, but "the whole team returning" is not accurate.
- A DLC for the first game has not been ruled out, but the sequel comes first.
- Asked about the original's online controversies, Xia said he has "no regrets, only gratitude."
On September 14, in a comment marking 505's 20th anniversary, Xia responded to fans asking for updates: "I get it, friend — no rush, but it has to be fast."
Hiring and money
Indolphinity opened more than ten roles in August, including 3D scanning, audio lead, technical art, level design, animation lead, environment art, IT and finance, at ¥5,000–40,000 per month. Reports said the new office was being fitted out.
On September 24, Digital Bros reported FY2026 results:
- Revenue: €108.5 million (+16%)
- EBITDA: €54.2 million (+62%)
- EBIT: +€5.1 million
- Net loss narrowed to €6.5 million
- WUCHANG was named as a main driver.
The original game in 2026
- 5 million players worldwide as of July 24, 2026 (players, not sales; includes Game Pass).
- 1 million copies sold by March 31, 2026, with more than €30 million in net revenue in eight months.
- Steam launch peak: 131,000 concurrent players.
- Overall Steam rating remains Mixed (about 52–57% positive), against ~80% recent; at launch the positive rate briefly fell to 13–19%.
- After the sequel announcement, concurrent players climbed back to 5,004, a 2026 high.
Post-launch support has ended
The last official patch was 1.7.1 on November 20–21, 2025, adding three armor sets, two weapons, four free headwear items, boss rematches and performance fixes. There have been no official patches, balance changes, outfits or DLC from August to October 2026.
An NGA leak claims a 1.8 update with difficulty options, Boss Rush and photo mode is "basically finished, only testing left." Neither 505 nor Leenzee has confirmed it, and the leaker says it may never ship or be folded into a "2.0."
The game is still on Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate/PC at launch, Premium since May 6, 2026) and was a PlayStation Plus Essential monthly game from May 5 to June 1, 2026.
What to expect next
No release window, platforms or title. The sequel is likely years away; the useful signals to watch are Indolphinity's hiring, 505's quarterly reports and any first gameplay reveal. Until then, the first game remains the best way to see what the team is building on.
