5. State of Play Deep Dive: What We Learned

Sony's dedicated State of Play delivered nearly 20 minutes of deep-dive gameplay covering combat, weapons, and the Wulin world. Key reveals:

  • Four difficulty levels, topped by the brutal "66 Days" mode (六十六天) — the protagonist's 66-day countdown becomes a game system: you have only 66 lives, each defeat consumes one, and depleting them all deletes your save and forces a fresh start. This mode unlocks in New Game +.
  • A deep weapon system — reportedly 50+ weapons including the Drunken Sword (醉剑), Twin Swords (双剑), Lion Head (狮头) and Tiger Cannon (虎炮), each with its own moveset.
  • New bosses & characters — a blazing lion-dance boss (Lion Dance Lord / 舞狮尊主), the sword-obsessed Jian Chi (剑痴), and a mysterious white-haired female character; the full game map was revealed for the first time.
  • PS5 features trailer — the PS5 version showcases adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and 3D audio for immersive combat.
  • Donnie Yen's Mó Yuán is a hidden boss — producer Liang Qiwei confirmed that Soul's father Mó Yuán appears as a secret boss, unlocked by completing specific trials.
  • The main story reportedly spans 30–40 hours with multiple endings.
  • Despite pre-show rumors, no PS5 demo was announced during the event.

The countdown continues — with just over two months left until Soul's 66-day lifespan ends.
