Black Myth: Wukong DLC in 2026: Status, Rumors & What's Next
Published October 21, 2026 · Black Myth: Wukong · 6 min read
Black Myth: Wukong turned two on August 20, 2026. The anniversary brought a 30% discount, a merchandise wave and a concert tour — but no DLC. The "big news" Game Science teased for that date turned out to be a 15-minute gameplay demo of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, not an expansion for Wukong.
As of October 21, 2026, there is still no Wukong DLC, no season pass, no roadmap and no release window. Here is the official state of play.
The anniversary sale
All digital editions were 30% off from August 12 to August 25 (PS Store through August 26) — the game's first 30% discount since launch.
- China Steam Standard Edition: ¥268 → ¥187.6
- China Deluxe Edition: ¥328 → ¥229.6
- US Standard Edition: $59.99 → $41.99
DLC was paused in August 2025
The pause is not a 2026 decision. When Game Science announced Zhong Kui on August 20, 2025, producer Feng Ji explained that the team had spent more than half a year planning Wukong DLC before deciding to start something new.
"Wukong's legend will return in a more complete, more solid form — when it is ready." — Feng Ji (translated from his August 2025 post)
He also quoted Nintendo's Satoru Iwata: "There is no future on the existing extension line."
The official line has been "paused" rather than "cancelled" ever since. Feng Ji has not said whether Wukong's return would be a DLC, a sequel or another format.
Yang Qi's explanation, one year later
On August 20, 2026, art director Yang Qi expanded on the decision. According to his long post and subsequent interviews:
- The internal DLC proposals "lacked creative passion" and felt less compelling than fan creations.
- A DLC would inherit the base game's technical compromises — lighting, invisible walls and combat camera work.
- The team wanted to use Zhong Kui to rebuild its fundamentals first: overcast lighting, more credible combat feedback, less stage-like presentation and fewer invisible walls.
Feng Ji's own anniversary post focused on the studio's "ten working principles" and contained no DLC news. In June 2026, asked whether something was planned for August 20, he replied with a "烦死了" ("so annoying") GIF.
What is actually on sale
Store listings offer only the Deluxe Upgrade (the Bronze Cloud Staff, armor, wind chime and digital soundtrack) and the original soundtrack. There is no story content, no expansion and no season pass.
The widely circulated "Six Desires" (六欲劫) DLC chapter has been debunked; no official source exists.
Rumors, fact-checked
| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| "Six Desires" (六欲劫) DLC chapter | Fabricated. No official source, no announcement, no store listing. |
| "Big news" on August 20, 2026 was Wukong DLC | False. It was a 15-minute Black Myth: Zhong Kui gameplay demo. |
| A direct Wukong sequel is in development | Unconfirmed. Yang Qi said the team chose a new game rather than a direct sequel; no sequel has been announced. |
| An annual or complete edition is coming | No official announcement. Stores list only the Deluxe Upgrade and soundtrack. |
A series rebrand
On the same day as the Zhong Kui demo, the Wukong official account was renamed simply "Black Myth" (黑神话). The move is widely read as the start of a shared Black Myth universe, with Zhong Kui as the second entry rather than a direct Wukong sequel.
The 30-million sales question
Chinese state media has repeated a "30 million copies" figure, most recently on October 4. That number originated from a June 15 think-tank report, not Game Science. In July, the studio said it "differs from our internal data" and confirmed only that overseas sales are about half.
The last official hard figure remains 10 million copies in three days (August 2024).
What else happened in 2026
- Concerts: the global soundtrack tour played two sold-out nights in Taipei on September 19–20 and heads to Singapore's Esplanade Theatre on October 24–25.
- Xbox: a September 18 technical analysis found Series X performance mode runs at a higher average resolution than PS5 but with reduced shadows and global illumination; Series S cuts more.
- Patches: the last confirmed official patch was 1.0.21.23831 in mid-January 2026. There was no major September–October update.
- Switch 2: still an unconfirmed rumor. No film or animation adaptation has been announced.
What would bring DLC back?
Game Science has not said. The most recent official position is that Wukong will return "when it is ready", with Zhong Kui as the current priority. Until then, treat any DLC date or chapter name you see online as unverified unless it comes from Game Science.
