Where Winds Meet 2.3 Qingzhou: New Region, Inkbound Order & DLSS 5
Published October 21, 2026 · Where Winds Meet · 7 min read
Where Winds Meet opened its first "thematic region" on October 15, 2026 with Version 2.3, "Friends From Afar." Qingzhou is smaller than a full major region but denser in systems: a new school, a new weapon, a card-debate PvP mode and three world bosses. It arrives three weeks after the Hidden Mountain finale and two months after the game passed 100 million registered players.
What 2.3 adds
Qingzhou
The game's fifth major area, covering Mount Tai, Wellspring Town, Crownleek Terrace and the Yellow River estuary. The zone is built around the idea of a scholarly pilgrimage: academies, mountain roads and river trade rather than a single battlefield.
The Inkbound Order (文津馆)
A new school that introduces a dual-school / visiting-disciple system — you can study under the Inkbound Order without abandoning your original sect. It also adds "A Duel of Wits," a card-debate PvP mode.
Ribbon Drum (舞绫鼓)
A new weapon paired with the Silkbind: Wings (牵丝·翊) style. Long ribbons handle crowd control; drum beats buff allies. It is the most support-oriented weapon added so far.
Three world bosses
- Tidewatcher (观潮客)
- Old Raftsman (筏师的爷爷)
- Shuttlecock Champion (祝英晗)
Progression and events
- Solo level cap raised from 17 to 18.
- Season 5: "Ever Aflame."
- Qingzhou opening month + Exam Showdown: October 15 – November 14.
- New Armament Drill: October 15 – 29.
- Bubble Party / Merchant's Way: October 22.
- Penglai Isle + Mount Tai Blizzard campaign: October 29.
DLSS 5
NVIDIA announced on October 13–14 that Where Winds Meet will receive full DLSS 5 (3D-Guided Neural Rendering) on PC by late November. It is one of the first three games in the world to support it. At launch, 2.3 did not include DLSS 5, which led to some "paper promise" complaints.
The 2.2 finale, in case you missed it
Version 2.2 "Perilous Eminence" launched on September 16 and closed the Hidden Mountain storyline:
- Skyward City Ruins: ride wooden kites through collapsing towers and face the previous Grand Master, Qing.
- Final Direction: a battlefield where gravity keeps reversing, ending in a duel with Elder Peng.
- Qianye returns as the finale's antagonist.
- Golden Colossus Taicu: tied to Qin Shi Huang's twelve golden statues; destroy the field structures to lift its seal, then climb its body to break the core.
- Goshawk: a hammer-wielding boss with molten-iron "flower" attacks.
- Transdust Ruins (September 23): a four-phase extraction mode built with an official Escape from Tarkov collaboration. Requires level 20+; supports solo, three-player or AI teams; disguises, pickpocketing and acupoint strikes are usable.
- Drunken Fist arrived on September 3, alongside a Yuen Woo-ping choreography collaboration.
- The Chilled Current battle pass ended on October 15.
The China server is ahead
The Chinese client runs a faster schedule and is roughly six months ahead of the international build:
- 2.8.5 "平澜起风波" (September 24): completes Hangzhou with the Pinglan Academy and Yingtian Pagoda, plus the mulberry-sea and Qiantang embankment areas. Main story plus five side stories exceed 500 minutes; new guardian Qiantang Tide and world boss Angry Tiger. The client also shed nearly 100 GB on PC and 20 GB on mobile.
- "长乐夜未央" (October 23): the second thematic region, reached by "golden ship" from Hangzhou. It adds four subregions, two guardians, three trails and five world bosses, including the game's first freely explorable underwater world, a tide cycle and a black market. The theme song "宝船" is by DOUDOU.
The audience
- 100 million cumulative registered players announced on August 26, 2026, up from 80 million+ in June. This is registrations, not monthly active users.
- Mobile revenue of about $223.7 million by June 16, 2026 (AppMagic estimate).
- Steam all-time peak around 250,600 at the November 2025 launch; October 2026 peak 20,678, monthly average about 8,647.
- Steam rating 86–87% positive across 113,000–116,000 reviews; Metacritic around 71 from critics, 6.9–7.2 from users.
- Best Mobile Game at Gamescom 2026.
Reception of 2.3
The main criticisms are that Qingzhou feels more like a "themed mini-map" than a full region, and that performance and shader-compilation stutters remain on some PCs. DLSS 5 was not available at launch. The positive side: the Inkbound Order and Ribbon Drum give the game two genuinely new playstyles, and the 2.2 finale is widely regarded as the strongest story content of the year.
What to watch next
- November 2 anniversary livestream and the November 13 First Global Anniversary with the "Hutuo Battlefield" expansion (featuring Xiao Han, Yelu Abuli, and Yuen Woo-ping's Dual Spears).
- October 29 rollout of Penglai Isle and the snowy cold-case investigation.
- DLSS 5 on PC by late November.
- Whether the international build begins to close the six-month gap with the China server.
