Phantom Blade Zero Release Date & Unlock Time

Published October 21, 2026 · Phantom Blade Zero · 6 min read

📅 Update: The game launched on October 29 — see the launch-day roundup.

Phantom Blade Zero is eight days away. After a 50-day delay from its original September 9 date, S-GAME's "kungfupunk" action RPG arrives on October 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and PC. The final preview embargo lifted on October 8–9, and the response has been unusually unanimous: several outlets are calling it the best action game since Sekiro and a Game of the Year contender.

Release date and unlock time

  • October 29, 2026 at 02:00 UTC — that is 10:00 AM Beijing Time.
  • Platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro, Steam, Epic Games Store, WeGame and TapTap PC.
  • No Xbox version at launch. Multiple outlets report a 12-month PS5 console exclusivity window, but neither S-GAME nor Sony has officially confirmed it.
  • China pricing: Standard Edition ¥268 (pre-order ¥258), Deluxe Edition ¥328.
  • Preload opened on October 27 at 10:00; see the launch-eve roundup.

Unlock time by region:

RegionLocal unlock time
Beijing / Singapore (UTC+8)October 29, 10:00
Tokyo (UTC+9)October 29, 11:00
Sydney (UTC+11)October 29, 13:00
London (GMT)October 29, 02:00
Central Europe (CET)October 29, 03:00
US Pacific (PDT)October 28, 19:00
US Eastern (EDT)October 28, 22:00

Steam and some storefronts may display October 28 because of the UTC unlock time; the global unlock is still 02:00 UTC on October 29.

The delay was announced on June 3, 2026. Creative director Liang Qiwei (Soulframe) said the extra time was used to upgrade character models, rebuild parts of the environments and improve visual quality without relying on ray tracing. He also said the team was not moving out of another game's way.

What the final previews say

From October 8–9, IGN, GameSpot, Game Rant, DualShockers, Wccftech and others published four-to-six-hour hands-on impressions. The consensus:

  • Combat is the headline. The parry- and "Sha-Chi" (killing intent) driven system draws constant Sekiro comparisons, with blue attacks that can be blocked and red attacks that must be dodged. Precise defense triggers Ghost Step, an automatic reposition-and-counter.
  • Bosses and weapons are deep. Every boss drops its own weapon, and previews praise the variety of fighting styles rather than a single optimal build.
  • The main concern is performance. Some journalists reported frame-rate drops on high-end PCs; others ran at 4K/ultra smoothly. S-GAME says optimization continues through launch.
  • It is not a strict Soulslike. Enemies do not respawn, there is no death penalty, and the game is built around fast combos and cinematic set pieces.

Scale, length and endings

  • 8 chapters across eight seamlessly connected semi-open maps, not one open world.
  • 30+ main weapons and about 25 Phantom Edge secondary weapons; reportedly 50+ bosses.
  • 25–30 hours for the main story, or about 40 hours with side content. New Game+ and a full re-spec system are included.
  • 8 endings, confirmed by Liang Qiwei — two more than Elden Ring. Side-quest completion and clue flags determine the outcome; a mainline-only run leads to a "bad" ending.
  • 66 Days mode: 66 lives, one lost per death, with a separate save file, autosave only, and no tie to the Platinum trophy. Running out triggers a special "regret" ending.

Is Phantom Blade Zero a Soulslike?

No. S-GAME and the final previews describe it as a fast, combo-driven action game closer to Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden than Dark Souls.

  • Enemies do not respawn, and there is no death penalty.
  • Combat is built around parries, Ghost Step counters and cinematic set pieces rather than stamina management.
  • The 66 Days mode adds a permadeath-style challenge with 66 lives, but it is optional, uses a separate save and is not tied to the Platinum trophy.

Pre-orders and wishlists

The game passed 3 million wishlists on September 17 and was Steam's fourth most-wishlisted title at the time. Pre-orders opened on August 11 and, according to S-GAME, "far exceeded expectations"; the game topped the Steam global bestseller chart within about an hour and led the PlayStation Hong Kong pre-order chart.

The last big reveal

On October 13, IGN premiered The Hunt, the opening carriage boss fight. The boss grows extra arms in its second phase and wields four axes at once. The same video showed the Deluxe Edition cosmetic Blood-Steel Form, a purely visual skin.

No demo, no DLC roadmap

Despite a PS Store demo listing that briefly appeared in August, S-GAME has announced no public demo and no post-launch DLC roadmap. Playable builds have only been available at events. As of October 20, the final launch trailer had not been released.

What to watch at launch

  • Day-one performance, especially on PC and PS5 Pro.
  • Review scores, which had not gone live as of October 21.
  • Whether the 12-month console exclusivity is ever officially confirmed.
  • Post-launch support — S-GAME has not announced DLC, but a successful launch would make an expansion likely.
